In my world, it’s really difficult to keep one device for any sustained amount of time. Given that I review a multitude of devices in any given quarter, it’s a challenge to keep any phone for a long period of time as my main phone. Over the past twelve months, the Galaxy Note 3 has done just that for me – with a new device every fortnight on average, I’m always swapping phones and SIM cards yet I’ve always drifted back to my ‘main phone’, the Galaxy Note 3.
The time has come however, to wave goodbye to a handset that seriously rocks; the usual concerns of lag, poor performance, bad battery life and hardware issues just don’t apply to the Note 3. Over the past year the Note 3 has suffered no lag and whenever I’ve need a true multitasking tool, the Note 3 has been ready and willing. The display has been good enough, the size is easily adjusted to, the camera is passable and overall, it has been a very impressive phablet.
So why has it gone, I hear you ask? Simple… the Note 4 is around the corner. There’s little doubt that Samsung make impressive phablets – the S-Pen is just one example of this – and whilst I’m enjoying using smaller handsets (I’ve discovered 4.7 inches is the ultimate screen size), I’ll definitely have the Galaxy Note 4 to hand. It’s certainly not a perfect device but if it can last a year like the Note 3, it will have been a worthwhile purchase.
The Note 4 lands on October 10th in the UK and I’m looking forward to it arriving on my doorstep. Are you planning to order one? Check out the Galaxy Note 4 specs, our Note 4 hands on and let me know in the comments below. Let’s just hope the Note 4 doesn’t have the same SIM restrictions as the Galaxy Note 3.
