If you’re thinking of buying a Full HD Android smartphone, you’ve probably come across the Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and the Sony Xperia Z2. These three devices are their respective manufacturer’s current flagships (although rumours of new prime versions with 2k displays continue to persist).
Yet with three devices that have arguably the same quality display and speakers, how do you decide which is better? Are they really as close in person as they appear to be on paper? We recently had all three devices at TechView HQ so we thought, why not put this to the test?
Below we’ve got a comparison of all three devices – we’re playing the 2012 remake of the iconic movie Dredd and for each device, we’re starting it and stopping it at the same time for clarity. Let’s kick things off with the Sony Xperia Z2…
So that’s our comparison but which display is actually better? It’s a difficult one to call but here’s our short-yet-sweet conclusion to this test:
The Xperia Z2 has the best display that Sony have made to-date on their smartphone range but is surpassed by both the HTC One M8 and the Galaxy S5. Despite having a pentile display, the Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S5 is impressive and beats the competition but the displays of the HTC One M8 and the Xperia Z2 come quite close.
With dual frontal-stereo speakers and a dedicated amplifier, there’s no doubt that the HTC One M8 has the best speaker out of the three, appearing louder and clearer than any of its rivals. For the best display, choose the Galaxy S5 and for the best speaker choose the HTC One M8 – Sony’s Xperia Z2 flagship is a joy to experience and is very competitive but can’t beat its rivals.
