The problem with Wireless Charging…

Wireless charging – it’s a cool feature but one that has inherrent issues. I’m a big fan of wireless charging and have around four wireless chargers in my home but when I’m using a wireless charging pad, I’ve noticed a really annoying ‘feature‘.

Like many people, I leave my phone to charge overnight, usually because I’m on it all the time otherwise! For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been using the Galaxy S5 Wireless Charging Kit but it has the same issues as other wireless chargers – far too often, IT DOESN’T CHARGE!

I leave my phone on the charger overnight and the last thing I do is check whether it’s charging. When you’re using a USB cable plugged into the charging port on your phone, there’s less need to do this but with wireless charging, you usually need to keep an eye on your phone.

So I go to bed and the phone is on charge. Awesome right? Not so much – every day this week, I’ve woken up to find that my phone has barely charged overnight. This has happened with multiple wireless chargers and multiple devices (LG G3, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5 and a couple of Nokia Lumias).

The result? Having to find a power source to charge the phone, which defeats the purpose of a wireless charger right? Wireless charging at present requires placing the receiver (on your phone) directly on your charging plate/stand. If it’s to the side (and not center) this can cause charging to stop so in my case, it’s possible a notification vibration caused the handset to move away from the center of the charging pad.

I love wireless charging but if this continues, I might just end up going back to wired charging. Or there’s always other types of wireless chargers.
