The new Huawei Ascend P7 is in the house! Huawei’s flagship for 2014 was announced in May in Paris and we’ve been eagerly waiting for this to land at TechView HQ – it arrived a couple of weeks ago and ahead of our full review next week, we’re bringing you our unboxing video and hands on gallery.
First up is our Huawei Ascend P7 unboxing:
Now we’ve unboxed it, let’s take a closer look at Huawei’s flagship smartphone for 2014 -

The Huawei Ascend P7 features a large 5 inch IPS display with Full HD 1080p resolution which offers a stellar pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. This is slightly better than those offered by the Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5. The Huawei Ascend P7 display features Gorilla Glass 3 protection which is Corning’s most protective yet slimmest screen protection yet.

At 6.5mm thick, the Ascend P7 continues where the Huawei Ascend P6 left off as the slimmest smartphone in the world. Despite the thin profile, the Ascend P7 weighs in at a respectable 124 grams and thanks to its aluminium build, it feels sturdy and very much a premium device. Huawei’s take on metal devices is to make them act and feel like premium devices and from first glance, they’ve done exactly this with the P7.
Under the hood, the Ascend P7 is powered by a quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A9 processor along with Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 910T chipset, a Mali-450MP4 graphics chip and 2GB RAM. There’s also 16GB internal storage and as is the trend on the market, a microSD card slot supporting up to 64GB expandable memory.

On the back is a 13MP camera with autofocus, single LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, panorama and HDR all included in the camera software. Unlike it’s flagship rivals, the Ascend P7 only captures 1080p Full HD video – the LG G3, Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and HTC One M8 all support 4k Ultra HD video recording. Whilst the rear camera is on par with other devices, the front camera is where the Ascend P7 really stands out from the competition.

Just above the large display, the Ascend P7 features a 8MP camera sensor that’s capable of capturing Full HD video and taking wide-angle panorama shots. In the current selfie-crazed world we live in, the Ascend P7′s front facing camera stands out from the rest and continues where the Ascend P6 left off (remember the Beauty Level on ‘selfies’?)
Overall there’s a lot to admire about the Ascend P7 from first glance but how does it perform? We’ll cover that in the upcoming review but for now, here’s the rest of our hands on gallery.
