If you’re looking for a new phone in the phablet class, chances are the LG G3 and the iPhone 6 Plus will be on your list of potential devices. Last week we spent time with both handsets (we’ve already reviewed the LG G3 here and our thoughts on the iPhone 6 Plus are coming up next week) and one of the areas we looked at was Wi-Fi performance.

Both handsets support dual-band Wi-Fi channels and can connect to networks running on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz spectrum bands. Aside from a wireless connection, each handset has alternative connectivity options including HSDPA and LTE Cat 4, which allows you to download at speeds of up to 150Mbps and upload at up to 50Mbps when connected to a 4G mobile network that supports the speeds.
Let’s take a look how they each perform when connected to the BT HomeHub 5 running on BT Infinity.
So there you have it; although the speeds are roughly equal, the LG G3 does seem to have better wifi performance. It’s worth nothing that neither device reached anywhere near the promoted BT Infinity top speed of 80mbps down (which I’ll go into on more detail in another article) and the speedtest.net app is much slower on Android.
